Creating Great Content for Online Marketing Articles
Tuesday, June 29th, 2010
Online marketing is not quite my first love but cherished all the same! Having worked in this industry for many years and watched it evolve dramatically, its great to see its true power come to fruition. And at the heart of it’s growth lies the power of the search engine and the targeted site visitors you can access through effective Search Engine Optimisation.
Many websites boast how they can increase your site rankings in very little time by using SEO content to shoot your visibility through the roof. But content for contents sake is easily disregarded by Google and other engines. Any content generated for SEO has to be used in an effective way to achieve even a page three ranking on the major search engines.
Read the tips below and learn how to write great content from an SEO perspective. Then sit back and reap the benefits of increased site traffic from qualified visitors:
- First of all, write well – this is one of the key factors that SEO content writers seem to forget. If you are stuffing in keywords and applying all the rules required for effective online marketing without writing relevant content for the reader, then your article will rank much lower than that of a piece that is written to capture the interest of your site visitor. Research your topic, engage your reader and you’ll learn how your unique piece of content effectively promotes your website.
- Grammar and spelling – once your article is written, make sure that there are no spelling errors or grammatical mistakes. Search engines use advanced algorithms to detect spelling/grammatical mistakes and this can reduce the value of your content from an SEO perspective. It takes only a few minutes to proof work. Take your time, enlarge the font if necessary and go over your work until it’s an easy read and you’re confident that it’s relevant to the reader.
- Word count – I am not saying that you should attempt to limit your own creative flair but if a piece of content grows longer than 550 words or so, then it is high time to start editing out any unnecessary blurb. Long, sprawling pieces of content are not suitable for online marketing articles and the major search engines will mark you down slightly if you go over this limit. Shorter articles are also easier to digest for the reader.
- Keywords and their placement in your article – I have saved the best for last. Keywords are what make or break your article. Firstly, you will need to research your keywords and discover which ones work best for your particular business and the article you are publishing. There are a myriad of tools to help you identify the best keywords to target but for the beginner it is best to stick with the Google Keyword tool. Once you have finalised the right key words you need to knit them into the article in a seamless manner – not too many, and not too little. Do some research and find out the correct amount of “keyword density” for your articles. As a rule of thumb, it is best not to go over two to three percent of keywords per article (that is, two or three keywords for every 100 words). Every single SEO writer will have their own take on keyword density and placement though, so the more naturally you can knit in the keywords without excessive duplication, the better.
In summary – as part of your online marketing activities, make a commitment to publish fresh content on a regular basis then write well, research your keywords and enjoy creating content for your readers. Over time this activity will help you to achieve excellent rankings for your work. Enjoy!
